Couse Description

Operations Management is concerned with the production and delivery of goods and services.  It encompasses the design of the products and processes, the planning and execution of production, and acquisition and development of resources.  Efficient operations can provide a firm with major competitive advantages, since the ability to respond to consumer and market requirements quickly, at low cost, and with high quality, is vital for sustained profitability and growth.  Traditionally, the areas of manufacturing, supply chain, and service provision have been viewed as narrow, functional areas.  More recently, managers and business observers have understood that in an increasingly open, global, and technology-intensive economy, companies must integrate the operations function into corporate planning and strategy.  Particularly, companies need the ability to recognize competitive opportunities and to dynamically develop and apply the right operating capabilities to take advantage of them.
